The snow sculpture competition was a highlight of the 2009 edition of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous, which is held annually in late February in Whitehorse. The organizer of this event is a world champion snow carver himself and he attracted top level teams from across the country and internationally as far away as Finland. He asserts that some of the sculptures seen here would be world championship contenders and I have no reason to doubt that, they are spectacular. Some of these photos were taken on Rendezvous Saturday when most of the teams were still working to complete their pieces. I exposed the completed sculptures several days later which also provided the advantage of allowing camera positions unrestricted by crowds of people, though many people still wandered through the display in spite of a frigid wind that made changing lenses an excuse to retreat to the relative warmth of my car. However, sky conditions were perfect to dramatically highlight the subjects. View the show and be awed!
